But with all the recipes out there, it’s difficult to choose which ones to try first. I had to try so many combinations in the past until I found blends that smelled amazing and actually worked! In this blog post, I will share with you my favorite essential oil blends for relaxation and stress relief, so you can easily create a safe space to calm your mind and soothe your senses.

How To Make Essential Oil Blends At Home

Essential oils have done so much for me as a homemaker and a mom. Throughout the years, I’ve created essential oil diffuser blends that make our home smell fantastic like my woodsygingerpine, winter, and summer blends. I’ve also made essential oil recipes for flupain and inflammation, and even nail fungus that have helped many friends and family. They make a great addition to my wellness routine!

You can create your own blends for just about anything – I’m surprised I didn’t make essential oil blends for relaxation sooner! Each single blend recipe I will share with you has a combined average of 10 drops (about 0.5 grams). Simply double or triple the recipe should you need more, but I suggest making single use quantities with different recipes first until you find ones you like.

But before I reveal my favorite diffuser blends that reduce my stress levels, here’s how to make essential oil blends at home. You only need at least 2 relaxing pure essential oils, a 5mL amber glass essential oil bottle, and a mini funnel.

  • Step 1: Open a clean and dry amber glass essential oil bottle. Set the lid aside.
  • Step 2: Using a small funnel, carefully drop each essential oil into the bottle following the recipe.
  • Step 3: Remove the funnel from the bottle and attach the dropper cap. Make sure the lid is secure!
  • Step 4: Shake the bottle vigorously to combine the essential oils well.
  • Step 5: You may choose to use it immediately or, for optimal results, let the oils rest for 1 to 2 days. It’s best to store oil blends at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.

Best Calming and Relaxing Essential Oils To Use

Now that you know how to make essential oil blends, let’s talk about which essential oils to use to make the best blends for relaxation and stress relief. Not only do they give a sense of calm, but they also provide a non-invasive way to help manage feelings of anxiety, stress, and tension by creating a tranquil and peaceful space. Add any of these to citrus essential oil blends for a relaxing, energizing, and uplifting effect!

I want to emphasize the importance of buying only quality therapeutic-grade essential oils to make sure that they’re pure, potent, and free of contaminants. The best way is to do this is to purchase your oils from a trustworthy brand like Mountain Rose Herbs. Otherwise, you’ll get a watered down fragrance that won’t give you any benefits. Additionally, high-quality oils are less likely to cause adverse reactions or side effects, and you’re sure to get the maximum benefits that aromatherapy and essential oil use provide.

How to Use Essential Oil Blends For Relaxation and Stress Relief

It’s natural to have anxious feelings or feel stressed and overwhelmed from time to time. However, constant or prolonged stress negatively impacts both our mental and physical health.

Dr. Jeffrey Birk, who studies and teaches the relationship between emotions and health at Columbia University, says “Experiencing stress over longer periods of time leads to an imbalance in the body. Chronic stress is associated with health issues such as muscle tension, digestive problems, headaches, weight gain or loss, trouble sleeping, heart disease, and more.”

It’s important to manage stress and other negative emotions when we experience them. Some of the best wellness tips I’ve learned include getting restful sleep, exercising regularly, doing a self-care Sunday, and using stress relief products, essential oils included!

A great thing about essential oil blends is that they can be used in different ways. From using essential oil diffusers to including the blends in your homemade bath and beauty products, the possibilities are endless for your essential oil blends for relaxation!

Diffuser

Whether you’re using a regular or a nebulizing diffuser, diffusing a soothing blend is an effective way to transform the ambiance of any room or space. Simply add 100-150 milliliters of room temperature water to your diffuser’s tank then add 5-10 drops of the essential oil blend, depending on the size and capacity of your diffuser. Turn the machine on, adjust to your preferred settings, then sit back and relax.

Bath

Taking a long warm bath is one of my favorite ways to relax. I love soaking in a bubble bath or using bath confetti in the tub for added fun. In times of overwhelm, I add relaxing essential oils to my bath. It’s important to dilute the essential oils in carrier oils before putting them in your bath. Aim for 2-3 percent dilution, about 4-6 drops of essential oil per teaspoon (5ml) of carrier oil. Once properly diluted, swirl the blend in your bath water before you enter.

Roller Bottle

If you’re always on the go, roller bottles are a great way to use essential oil blends for relaxation. Again, the oils should be diluted in a carrier oil like jojoba, coconut, or sweet almond to avoid adverse reactions on the skin. Just remove the roller ball from the top of the bottle, add 4-6 drops of your essential oil blend, then top off with a tablespoon of a carrier oil of your choice. Reattach the roller ball, secure the lid, then shake the bottle vigorously. Use on your neck, wrists, or temples for stress relief.

Diffuser Necklace

An essential oil diffuser necklace is another great way to use relaxing blends when you’re on the go. If you ‘re using a locket style necklace, simply add 2 to 3 of the blend to the felt pad inside. If you have a lava beads diffuser necklace, apply 1 to 2 drops of your favorite relaxing blend directly onto the beads. Wear the necklace and enjoy aromatherapy wherever you go.

Massage Oil

Getting a massage is one of the best ways to calm your mind and release tension from your body. Take your next massage to the next level by adding any relaxing essential oil blend to your massage oil. Again, you will need to dilute the blend of your choice with a carrier oil since the oils will be used directly on your skin.

Just add 4-6 drops of your essential oil blend to an amber glass bottle, then top off with a tablespoon of any carrier oil. Secure the lid, shake the bottle vigorously, then massage away.

Room Spray

You can create your own room spray using your relaxing essential oil blends to target specific areas in your room or to freshen up linens, upholstery, or air throughout your home. Using a funnel, pour 1/2 cup of vodka into a small spray bottle then add 10 drops of your chosen essential oil blend. Attach the lid and shake the bottle well – you’re ready to use your room spray!

Homemade Bath and Beauty Products

Bring the spa experience into your home by incorporating these great essential oil blends into homemade products that can help you relax. You might need to use a bigger number of drops to fit the recipe of your project.

I’ve made DIY face masks,  soapssalt scrubslotions, and more! These would make great gifts for your teens, your momgrandma, and even your husband on your anniversary!
