Pumpkin Chai Latte is a creamy drink made with chai tea, pumpkin puree, and naturally sweetened with maple syrup. This fall drink is luscious, deliciously spicy, and made quickly at home using only simple, everyday ingredients. You can add the frothed milk for extra coziness or just warm it up to keep it simple.
Homemade Pumpkin Chai Latte
If refreshing kombucha is the perfect drink for the summer, then pumpkin chai latte is quickly becoming the most popular fall drink, and for a good reason. It’s a wonderful combination of two favorite seasonal flavors: chai and pumpkin spice.
Chai latte is a spiced black tea steeped with cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and cardamom. Its pungent flavor profile pairs well with the creaminess of milk and can be sweetened with a sweetener of choice.
When you add pumpkin flavors to the mix – it becomes another level of deliciousness. The pumpkin puree adds a remarkably rich texture, while the pumpkin pie spice adds excellent flavor. Finally, add milk for the finishing touch, and it’s a match made in heaven for pumpkin and chai lovers everywhere!
This drink is so coveted that Dunkin Donuts pumpkin chai latte is back on the menu earlier in the season than usual, giving people more time to enjoy this seasonal classic.
Indeed, this chai latte with pumpkin is a cozy tea beverage with incredibly rich fall flavors. And the best part is that you can make a cup quickly in 5 minutes.
No need to leave the house and brave the drive-thru for Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks pumpkin chai latte, or other favorite Starbucks drinks. In fact, it’s much quicker to whip up a batch at home.
You can make this chai latte as simple or as fancy as you like. Take the easy way with store-bought chai tea bags and skip frothing the milk. The simplest way to make a pumpkin chai latte is to just warm the milk gently. But a traditional latte with frothed milk also deserves a notable mention! Do what works for you – the flavor is fantastic either way!
How to Make a Pumpkin Chai Latte Recipe
Gather 5 ingredients, and youโre halfway to making pumpkin chai in just 5 minutes!
This chai latte doesnโt require a lot of hands-on time or effort. Itโs easy to double the recipe, which is excellent when treating friends and family. Plus, you can shave off time by skipping the milk frothing and making more of a pumpkin chai tea rather than latte. Both are equally fantastic!
Ingredients
- Hot water
- Chai tea bags – your favorite store-bought tea brand, like Tazo chai or substitute with loose leaf tea and steep 2 teaspoons in a mesh tea ball.
- Milk – whole milk is best but 1% or 2% milk works too. I use a milk frother wand to add a rich, velvety foam on top of my latte. There are many milk frother uses you can benefit from if you like making your own drinks – you can make other creamy drinks like hot chocolate and milkshakes!
- Pumpkin puree – make sure you are using straight pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie filling. If youโre not sure, check the ingredient list to make sure only pumpkin is listed. You can also use homemade pumpkin puree.
- Maple syrup – or another sweetener of choice. Maple syrup is great for fall flavors like pumpkin, cinnamon, and ginger and it fits perfectly with chai. Honey is also nice but also, white granular sugar never fails. Adjust sweetener to taste and add more as needed.
- Pumpkin pie spice
- Vanilla extract

Step-By-Step Directions
Follow these simple directions, and you canโt go wrong! This pumpkin spice chai tea latte comes together in 4 easy steps. The hardest part is waiting for the chai tea to steep.
Step one: Steep tea
Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan or tea kettle. Steep the tea bags for 5 minutes.
Step two: Prepare milk
Prepare the frothed milk by steaming it and whisking briskly by hand or using an electric frother or the milk frothing attachment on an espresso machine.
Alternatively, warm the milk and pour into the tea (step 4) without frothing.
Step three: Add flavorings
Remove the tea bags, squeeze out the tea, and discard. Add the pumpkin puree, sweetener, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla. Mix well to combine. Strain and divide into two mugs.
Step four: Serve
Divide the milk between the two cups and fill to the brim. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and serve hot.
